Canva has had AI built in since 2023, but the 2025-2026 updates turned Magic Studio into a genuinely useful toolkit for non-designers. This guide covers the AI features that actually save time.
What Is Magic Studio?
Canva AI groups its AI features under the name Magic Studio. Access it from the left panel or the context menu when you select any element.
Features included in the free plan (with limits):

- Magic Media (unlimited image generation)
- Magic Design (complete designs from a description)

Magic Media — Generate Images and Videos from Text
In any design → left panel → Apps → Magic Media
Generate images
Write a description and choose a style:
- Photo: realistic photography
- Graphic: vector illustration
- Watercolor, Painting, Sketch...: artistic styles
Prompts that work well:
For social media:
Flat design illustration, [concept], pastel colors,
white background, simple geometric shapes, modern minimal
For blog:
Professional header image, [article topic],
isometric 3D illustration, blue and white color palette
For presentations:
Abstract background, [industry], gradient blue to purple,
geometric shapes, professional, no text
Generate short videos
Magic Media also generates 4-second clips for use in Reels, Stories, or presentations. Describe the scene and choose between "Cinematic," "Animation," or "3D." Quality is sufficient for social content, not for cinematic production.
Magic Design — Complete Design in Seconds
This is the most impressive feature for non-designers.

Magic Write — Text Generated Directly in Your Design
Select any text box → right-click → Magic Write → describe what you need:
- "Impactful headline for a Black Friday campaign, urgent and direct tone"
- "Three bullet points of benefits for a productivity app"
- "Professional 2-line bio for LinkedIn"
Tip: after generating, select the text and use Rephrase to get variations or Make shorter to adjust the length.
Background Remover + Magic Eraser
Background Remover
Select any image → Edit photo → BG Remover
In 3 seconds you have the image without its background, ready to use on any color or pattern. Works very well with people and products. On complex images it may leave irregular edges — refine with the manual eraser tool.
Magic Eraser (remove objects)
Edit photo → Magic Eraser → paint over the object you want to remove
Canva fills the area with a coherent background. For product photos: remove competitor logos, cables, background objects that are distracting.
Magic Animate — Automatic Animation
Select any element or the whole page → Animate → Magic Animate
Canva analyzes the design and automatically applies the most appropriate animation. To adjust: choose from entrance, exit, or full-page animation presets.
Useful for: animated LinkedIn posts, Instagram Stories, presentations with motion.
Workflow for Content Creators
For social media (daily):
- Magic Design → generate the base design
- Customize text and brand colors
- Magic Write for copy when you're stuck
- Download in the right format (PNG for posts, MP4 for Reels)
For presentations:
- Open a new presentation →
Magic Design→ describe the topic - Canva generates 10-15 slides with structure
- Replace the placeholder text with your actual content
- Use Magic Write to polish the text sections
For blog/web:
- Magic Media → generate unique cover images
- Background Remover for product images
- Download as WebP (available in Pro) for better web performance
